The Prague grosch, grossus Pragensis (Latin), was an important silver coin minted by King Wenceslas II of Bohemia as a result of a coinage reform carried out in 1300. The coin was known for its quality and became a model for other currencies in Europe. The importance of the Prague grosz lay not only in its economic value, but also in its influence on trade and the economy throughout Central Europe, which contributed to the development of trade and cities in the Czech lands. The Prague Grosh remained in circulation for several centuries and its production continued until the 16th century.
