George of Poděbrady 1458–1471 – Prague groat
George of Poděbrady (1420–1471) was King of Bohemia (1458–1471) and one of the most important political leaders of the late Middle Ages in Europe. He was the first and only Hussite king on the Czech throne. He came from a noble family from Poděbrady. He was elected by the provincial assembly after a period of long religious conflicts. He sought religious reconciliation between the Utraquists and Catholics in the Czech lands. He promoted moderate Hussitism (known as Utraquism). His reign brought a period of relative peace and stability.
